Gabriela Cedillo, then 26 years old, was working as an extra in 2010 on the set of the “Transformers 3” movie in Hammond, Indiana. Cedillo suffered catastrophic personal injuries when a piece of flying metal hit her on the head during the filming of a stunt sequence. Cedillo was driving a 2006 Toyota during the stunt scene. At that time, a cable snapped and crashed through the window of her car, striking her in the head and causing the car to spin out of control and hit the highway median. An investigation found that a weld connecting the car to a tow cable had failed and thereby caused the accident.
Cedillo was left with brain damage after the car accident and now needs constant care. She suffers from hallucinations, memory loss and substantial cognitive difficulty. Her family says her long-term prognosis is uncertain. The $18.5 million settlement, paid by Paramount Pictures, will set aside partial monthly payments to pay for Cedillo’s medical expense damages for the rest of her life.
