Woman Rescued from House Fire by Cable Worker.

A Boston, MA cable worker rescued a woman from her burning home last Thursday. Dawn Dingee, of 195 Norfolk Street in Boston, was in her bedroom on the second floor when the cable worker kicked her door and started yelling “fire!”

The unidentified cable employee was on a service call and happened to go outside when he saw the blaze in the home next door. Dingee said that if it wasn’t for the cable worker, she never would have made it out alive.

The worker insists that he is not a hero, and that anyone in the neighborhood would have done the same thing. A spokesperson for the Boston Fire Department said that the fire is currently under investigation, but that the rumors that someone started the fire by throwing something through the first floor window are unfounded.

Ben & Jerry’s Recalls Pints of Chocolate Nougat Crunch Ice Cream.

The Vermont-based Ben & Jerry’s ice cream company is pulling certain pints of its Chocolate Nougat Crunch Ice Cream from store shelves.  This is after the Vermont ice cream maker’s parent company said that the ice cream contained undeclared nuts.

Undeclared peanuts or tree nuts can cause serious allergic reactions in people with certain food allergies, normally within the span of a few minutes to 2 hours after consumption. Any customers who have purchased the product should dispose of the product and bring their purchase receipt back to stores for a full refund. As of yet, no illnesses have been reported, according to a press release from Stop & Shop.

The affected products have the following date codes printed on the bottom of the pint: JUL1113BJ1, JUL1213BJ1, AUG0113BJ1, AUG0213BJ1, AUG2313BJ1, AUG2413BJ1, AUG2513BJ1, SEP2013BJ1, SEP2113BJ1, or OCT2313BJ1. The UPC label for the affected pints is 7684020899.

Teen Flirting App “Skout” Suspended After Sexual Assaults.

Popular mobile flirting application, “Skout”, has suspended its services for teenagers after it was linked to three sexual assaults in recent weeks.

Skout opted to suspend its services after adults, posing as teens, victimized a 15 year-old girl, a 12 year-old girl and a 13 year-old boy, all in separate sexual assault incidents. Skout CEO, Christian Wiklund, posted a statement on the company’s blog site saying that he takes the sexual assaults very seriously, and that they were shutting down the app to the under-18 community until they could design better protections and safety controls.

In the first incident, a 15 year-old female victim was allegedly raped by a 37 year-old man she met through the mobile application, believing him to be a teenager. The next incident involved a 12 year-old girl who was reported missing and was later discovered in the bedroom of a 24 year-old man she had met on Skout. In the third case, a 21 year-old man was arrested for performing sexual acts on a 13 year-old boy he had met through the application.

Wiklund reiterated that the concerns are too significant to stand by and do nothing, and that Skout will not compromise the safety of its community with its product.
