According to one $1.5 million study, flying first-class may be more dangerous than flying coach.
During the remote controlled crash of a Boeing 727 in a desert in Mexico, the plane’s front, which included the front 11 rows of the plane, broke off.
Researchers believe that if the plane had been filled with human passengers, 100% of those flying first-class would have died, while 78% of those flying coach would have survived. The further back you went in the plane, the higher your chance of survival.
The researchers concluded that modern jets are better able to handle a crash like the one in the experiment, but believe that it is still safer to sit further back in the plane.
Words to the wise.
