Eleven People Injured in Bus Collision on Set of Sandra Bullock’s Movie.

A bus collision outside the Roxbury Municipal courthouse on Warren Avenue last week left 11 people injured.

An MBTA city bus was driving on Warren Avenue and passed through the movie set for Sandra Bullock’s upcoming film “The Heat” when it slammed into a parked on-set trailer. Eleven people on the bus were injured and were taken to a local hospital emergency room for non-life threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate the exact cause of the bus accident, but it is suspected that the driver of the MBTA bus was distracted by the movie set.

Plumber Crushes Leg in Drywall and Earns $550,000 Settlement.

A 37 year-old plumber was working at a job site when a large stack of drywall, weighing 85 to 110 pounds, fell on top of him. The plumber sustained serious personal injuries, including a broken right leg and fibular factures.

The plumber alleged that the subcontractor had improperly stored the drywall and had thus created a workplace hazard. He also alleged that the general contractor failed to adequately coordinate the work inspections that were done at the job site.

Although the defendants argued that the placement of the drywall was in accordance with industry practice and standards, and that the plaintiff caused the drywall to fall by moving it himself, the parties eventually settled the negligence and tort suit for $550,000.

Blind El Paso, TX Girl’s Family Awarded $2.1M in Medical Malpractice Case.

A Dallas County court in Texas has issued a $2.1 million judgment this past Wednesday to the family of an El Paso, Texas girl who was blinded by medical malpractice.

The judgment was issued in favor of Marcela and José Bustamante, who sued El Paso ophthalmologist Dr. Jorge Fabio Llamas-Soforo and his practice, alleging medical malpractice.

The couple’s daughter, Daniella, was born premature at the Del Sol Medical Center on May 19, 2005.  According to the allegations in the family’s lawsuit, Llamas-Soforo did not have specialized pediatric training, failed to re-examine the infant for four weeks, and did not properly treat the infant, causing her to lose her sight.
