In fact, patients with such a condition have traditionally been unable to produce sufficient amounts of insulin to even digest food. The available treatment has consisted mainly of a series of medications that have not fully helped to alleviate the symptoms of diabetes nor provided any meaningful hope for something resembling a cure.<\/p>\n<p>Several years ago, stomach reduction surgery was floated as a means of killing two birds with one stone, namely reducing the person\u2019s weight and reducing the person\u2019s sugar levels. Doctors like Dr. Robert Siegel from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles were very skeptical. But the results of the recently completed three-year study have been dramatic. Over 90% of the patients that had the surgery no longer required insulin injections, whereas 55% of the patients in the medication group still required insulin shots.
