The criminal charges stem from an accident in which <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metro.us\/boston\/news\/national\/2013\/10\/27\/ride-operator-arrested-after-north-carolina-state-fair\/\">five people were injured while riding a carnival ride<\/a> under his control this past Thursday, October 24, 2013 in Raleigh, North Carolina.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mgyIoDq0TDc\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"400\" height=\"280\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The personal injury accident occurred on the Vortex ride at the North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh, North Carolina.\u00a0 As riders were attempting to exit the ride, the ride started running again, throwing five people into the air, ranging in age from 14 to 29, before they came crashing back down to the ground.<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses at the scene stated that the victims suffered serious injuries. At least one person was knocked unconscious by the fall. The victims, whose names have not yet been released, were transported to a nearby hospital emergency room.\u00a0 Their current conditions are undisclosed, but at least three of them remained in the hospital on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>State officials stated that after inspecting the ride, they found that critical safety devices on the ride had been tampered with.
