Teen Flirting App “Skout” Suspended After Sexual Assaults.

Popular mobile flirting application, “Skout”, has suspended its services for teenagers after it was linked to three sexual assaults in recent weeks.

Skout opted to suspend its services after adults, posing as teens, victimized a 15 year-old girl, a 12 year-old girl and a 13 year-old boy, all in separate sexual assault incidents. Skout CEO, Christian Wiklund, posted a statement on the company’s blog site saying that he takes the sexual assaults very seriously, and that they were shutting down the app to the under-18 community until they could design better protections and safety controls.

In the first incident, a 15 year-old female victim was allegedly raped by a 37 year-old man she met through the mobile application, believing him to be a teenager. The next incident involved a 12 year-old girl who was reported missing and was later discovered in the bedroom of a 24 year-old man she had met on Skout. In the third case, a 21 year-old man was arrested for performing sexual acts on a 13 year-old boy he had met through the application.

Wiklund reiterated that the concerns are too significant to stand by and do nothing, and that Skout will not compromise the safety of its community with its product.
